In late May, the Michigan Department of Treasury released the 2022 deposit redemption, and it is now the third year in a row that Michiganders only returned 75% of deposit containers purchased. This added up to $100 Million of unclaimed dimes in 2022 that went to the State of Michigan. The redemption rate has been more than 90% for the life of the bottle bill.
Our “Take ’em Back” campaign is the first public-facing education platform we have implemented to engage with residents and increase bottle redemption. You may see our billboards along the freeways in Michigan.

MSU fans will see our messaging on the Jumbotron at Spartan Stadium

Not all Michigan residents know how far we have fallen since the Covid shutdown of bottle rooms. The importance of returning containers to retailers returns money to the consumers’ pockets and reduces landfill space taken up by deposit containers if consumers put them in the waste stream. In addition to the billboard advertisements, we created the website www.takeembackmi.com to serve as an information source for the public. Michigan needs you to return your bottles and cans to grocery stores — and so do we!
