With Schupan absences and positive cases due to COVID at a pandemic-high, Andy Wichman, our health & safety manager, shares a few insights.

  • Schupan is currently experiencing the largest surge of COVID cases since the pandemic began
  • Nearly half of our call-ins since October have ultimately tested positive for COVID
  • Unvaccinated employees experience more severe COVID symptoms and long-term effects than vaccinated employees
  • Report any symptoms to your supervisor & stay home if you are unwell
  • The vaccine works in the prevention of serious illness

If you are experiencing symptoms, immediately report them to your supervisor and stay home if you are ill. Your supervisor will inform a member of EHS or TMR to follow up with next steps.

Jim Dover, President and CEO of Sparrow Health System in Lansing, Michigan, says about the COVID rise, “We have more patients than we’ve ever had at any point, and we’re seeing more people die at a rate we’ve never seen before.”

Michigan COVID hospitalizations have jumped 88% in the past month, according to Michigan Health & Hospital Association, and 75% of the deaths are unvaccinated people.

If you have been vaccinated, please check your eligibility of receiving a booster vaccine. Boosters are shown to be an important preventative measure, as the initial COVID vaccine dose loses some efficacy after about 6 months.
